Translating research into nuanced, clinically relevant insights on mind-body health & physiology
Writer & Educator with Expertise in Mind-Body Medicine
I’m Lauren, a functional nutritionist (CNS), licensed therapist (LCSW), and writer with experience across psychology, nutrition, and functional and integrative medicine. My clinical work has included mental health, trauma, substance use, and eating disorder treatment across inpatient and outpatient settings, along with nutritional counseling, functional medicine laboratory testing, & integrative & functional approaches to mental & physical health.
I’m particularly interested in the bidirectional relationship between psychological & physiological health—how experiences such as attachment & trauma can affect the body, while nutrition, metabolism, & neuroimmune health can, in turn, influence mental health & well-being. This perspective informs my interest in nutritional & metabolic psychiatry, PNI, as well as individualized, root-cause approaches to health.
My work brings together clinical experience, research, and medical writing, with a clinically informed approach to understanding and communicating scientific evidence. My research background began with Honors research in psychology, where I developed a foundation in research methodology, scientific inquiry, and writing, culminating in the completion and defense of my Honors thesis.
I’ve long been interested in the ways psychological and physiological health intersect, which led me to pursue graduate degrees in clinical social work and nutrition and to build clinical experience in functional medicine. This perspective continues to shape my interest in biochemical individuality and in the complex interplay of biological, psychological, and environmental factors that shape individual health.
Writing, Research & Education
My professional writing and educational work has included developing clinical and educational content for practitioners and consumers, with a focus on nutritional psychiatry, metabolic psychiatry, functional medicine, and the relationships among nutrition, physiology, biomarkers, and psychological health.
I’ve contributed to scientific manuscripts, evidence synthesis, educational materials, presentations, and conference content, translating research and emerging evidence into clear, clinically relevant education. My work has spanned topics including nutritional and metabolic health, mental health, trauma, longevity, and the biological and behavioral factors that shape health.
I’ve also contributed evidence synthesis and scientific content to This Is Your Body on Trauma, bringing a nuanced, clinically informed perspective to the relationships among trauma, physiology, and personalized nutrition.
My broader educational work has included curriculum development, practitioner and patient education, webinars, presentations, CME-accredited lectures, and other educational content within the functional and integrative health space. I’ve also supported educational initiatives related to metabolic psychiatry and contributed to research examining nutrition- and exercise-based approaches to health.
Current Work & Collaboration
I’m currently interested in connecting with practitioners and organizations looking for thoughtful, research-informed support with scientific writing, research, clinical education, presentations, and related projects in the functional and integrative health space.
A selection of my writing samples is available in my portfolio, and I’d be happy to provide additional samples or connect with those interested in learning more about my work or exploring a potential collaboration.
